"My Blue Heaven" by Gene Austin

The song that I listened to and enjoyed was "My Blue Heaven" by Gene Austin. I really enjoyed this song because of how soothing and peaceful the song is. On top of that, Gene Austin's voice is sort of calm and delightful. It really makes me feel like I am living in the 1920's cruising in one of those old Ford cars down a beautiful neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon. It gets me thinking about how the people in those days acted and what their goals and morals were. None of the instruments were played in another way besides their traditional role. The piano was softly played like a background sound but seemed to work smoothly with Gene's voice. What really interested me was a line in the lyrics. The line reads, "Just Molly and me, And baby makes three, We're happy in my Blue Heaven." This verse interested me the most out of any of the lyrics because it emphasizes the message that gene is trying to convey, which is by having his wife or girlfriend (Moll...

"Soldiers Joy" by Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers

This song really surprised me because of how I really could not tell what the singer was saying. Although I couldn't tell what the singer was say, the lyrics cleared up what I was trying to understand. The lyrics and the song went together for the most part, I understood how soldiers like to drink a lot and take morphine to get them away from "here". To my understanding it is meant to be a joyous song played at get togethers or parties. It had a pretty upbeat tone and this totally aligns with the name of the song. I feel like the violin was played outside of its traditional role as the soothing and smooth type of instrument. In the song it felt like the violin was being played more violently but also in a joyful way. Some musical features that this song has with my favorite genre of music was that the singer had a quick flow and had rhyming end words. The genre I am describing is hip hop if you could not tell already. This type of music I feel was the start to the creati...

Introduction

Welcome to the W Blog page Hello Everyone, my name is Tafao Amataga, I am a freshman here at SUU and am part of the SUU football team. My all time favorite artist would be the great Tupac Amaru Shakur AKA 2pac. I don't have one single favorite genre, so all of my favorite genres to listen to would be old/new school hip-hop, old/new school R&B, afropop, reggae, and a little bit of country. Really any song from any genre that catches my ear I will listen to.
